MEC, our state and national partners have been monitoring and the ever-changing policies and funding decisions by the current U.S. Administration that may impact public education, educators, students and families in Maryland and taken action when possible. We have also worked with our Maryland federal and state elected and public officials to protect significant amounts of federal funding that had already been approved for distribution to states, local school systems and school communities.

Some may still be pending. Also, significant amounts of funding is still at risk of not being approved or distributed to Maryland, especially if it is tied to food, healthcare or housing. Therefore, we urge all of our members, friends and others to work within their school systems, communities, organizations and networks to ensure that all families who may be lower income or disability eligible for additional funds and resources to update all of their records and ensure it is reported in a timely manner to the appropriate government agencies.

Failure to enroll all who may be eligible may not only impact funding and resources for these families, but their communities, schools and school systems resulting with less opportunities to adequately fund quality academic and student services  that will allow all students access to a high quality education that will allow each student and fair opportunity to graduate college or career-ready in an healthy, safe environment.
